FDA facility registration period open.
The regulations of the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) require that domestic and foreign facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold food for human or animal consumption in the U.S. register with the FDA. The registration period is open from October 1st through December 31st of every even-numbered year.
Registration is once again open.
A change to the regulations from past years is that effective January 1, 2015, food from an unregistered facility that is required to do so can be held under Section 801(l) of the Food, Drug & Cosmetic (FD&C) Act. This means that if a company has not completed their registration by December 31, 2014, the products they are shipping or attempting to import can be held at the port of arrival and may be subject to destruction or re-exportation.
Don’t wait for December 31st, renew your registration now.
