UPDATE to TIN #69265969 Applicants Seeking to Operate a Centralized Examination Station (CES) in the Port of New York/Newark

Centralized Examination Stations are privately run exam sites that must abide by strict U S CBP regulations and requirements to operate. U S CBP at regular intervals listed in the regulations put these “out for bid” – in many cases existing exam sites re-up their bid and remain in place and this process is not obvious to importers.

We bring the below Trade Information Notice to your attention because the CES landscape is changing. What is different about the below open bid period for applicants is the following:

The recent bid opening for applications to operate a CES – is derived from the fact that U S CBP is looking to ADD to the number of existing CES’s.

This is part of the administrations strengthening of enforcement implementation.

The below notice is evidence that if more exam sites are added, this will create additional capacity for U S CBP to conduct more examinations on a regular basis in the future.

We believe that this will result in more exams for import cargo. Importers need to be aware of the potential delays caused by exams and additional costs caused by exams.

This will take time to be implemented but it appears to be moving in the direction of more exams not less.

Keeping you in mind and sharing information we believe to be valuable.
